My background at The Perse | A Top-10 Independent School in the UK

I personally prepared for The Perse’s 11+ Entrance Exam, and as I approach nearly seven years at the school, I bring first-hand experience of what it takes to succeed. Alongside this, I have over two years of tutoring experience in preparing students for the 11+ entrance exams to top independent and grammar schools across the UK. My students have secured offers not only from The Perse at 10+, 11+ and 13+, but also from highly competitive schools such as Westminster School and Queen Elizabeth’s School. After completing my A-Levels at The Perse, I plan to study Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

What makes my team of tutors and I unique is that we are all recent graduates of independent or grammar schools, each of us has personally taken the 11+ and understands exactly what is required at that age. We know the challenges students face and the strategies that lead to success, giving us a perspective that many other tutors, who have never experienced this system, simply cannot offer. All our Tutors have all predicted or achieved A*s and have offers or are attending top-10 UK universities such as the University of Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College London and Warwick.

I also pride myself on maintaining an honest and transparent pricing structure. While many tuition companies charge excessive rates (often upwards of £90 per hour) for tutors without this first-hand experience, our rates are clear and fair: £40 per hour of tuition, plus £22 per month to cover resource costs. That’s it, no hidden fees. Any additional resources are optional, at your own discretion.

What We Offer

Your Tutor will create a tailored study plan focused on the target school's specification. We provide over 50+ exam papers and alternative resources which challenge's students abilities. Our framework for most 11+ schools is highlighted below

  • When should tuition start for the 11 Plus?
We recommend beginning tuition 6-12 months before the exam. Ideally, this means starting in January of Year 5. However: Some families start earlier (Year 4 or even Year 3) for a slower, more gradual build-up. Others start later (just before Year 6) and opt for intensive weekly lessons. We’ll advise the best plan for your child depending on their starting point and target schools.

We know what works at that age, from managing nerves to mastering tricky question types. This first-hand insight allows us to relate directly to your child and guide them with proven strategies.
  • Can I book a trial lesson?
We offer an initial lesson, which is charged at our market rate, so you and your child can see if it’s the right fit. There is no obligation to continue if you feel we’re not the right match. We do not offer free trial lessons as we still cover essential content and use the time effectively, however there is no initial obligation to a full month's commitment, only after the initial lesson.
  • What is the 11 Plus?
The “11+” refers to a range of selective entrance exams taken in Year 6 for entry into grammar schools and independent schools at Year 7. Depending on the school, the exams may cover: English and Maths (often at a higher level than the standard Year 6 curriculum) Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning (logical problem-solving and pattern recognition) School-Specific Papers or Pre-Tests such as the ISEB Common Pre-Test, The Perse entrance exam, or exams for Westminster, Harrow, and others. Because different schools set different styles of tests along with the extreme competitive nature of these exams, tailored preparation is essential.
